Splendid 66 x2, no match for Olivetti Valentine x13!
What typewriter would I want to collect over and over, myself? Perhaps a whole array of basket-shifted '50s Underwoods: Golden Touches/ Leaders/ Finger Flites, in all their different colors and shapes. Now that's a theme I could get behind.
Either that, or a whole variety of Groma Kolibris - mainly because they were produced in such an impressive array of colors that it would be fun to collect them all. But they would be my second choice because from what I have seen, their delicate mechanisms leave something to be desired as far as having withstood the passage of time.
Nice. I like the Hermes square. Yours have all the platen knobs also.
ReplyDeleteI began with a pre-WW2 black-only habit. Then,for a time, I harboured a yearning to collect as many colours of Corona 4 as I found. When a red one sold on eBay for over £50, I sort of lost the will chase after more than the three I already had. In the last few months, I have gone beyond the pale and acquired quite a few more post-war machines, too. So, I have to say, my collecting habits have become promiscuous. Fortunately, there's plenty more space in the attic :-)

Bill. Like a cellar but up, not down :-) Kind of one of the reasons for the name Typewriter Heaven. Our house is 1960 so the roof space isn't crammed with trusses like new builds. But I do have to lower the rickety ladder to get up there.
DeleteI could see myself collecting multiple SG1's, for different platen widths and fonts. Of course, having a few more Hermes 3000s or Baby's wouldn't be so bad either:)
ReplyDeleteHa! I was also tempted to concentrate purely on Olympias but I don't have the strength of mind nor the willpower to stick to this.
DeleteA few years ago I got this impulse to collect a variety of Kolibris (which were often selling for 1 euro on ebay.de). I built up a collection of 8 or so which I displayed on stacking transparent plastic desk trays. They can be very space-efficient!
ReplyDeleteRichard, your impressive collection of Kolibri variations was what initially got me interested in Groma typewriters. They are all so pretty! :-) You got them at the right time, I think, as it has been a while since the halcyon days of 1-euro Kolibris!
DeleteI definitely have to say the SM3! But in different colors and typefaces. I can see my self having two or three identical machines but not more than that.

ReplyDeleteWe do have 2 nearly identical Hermes 3000's (Easy and Joanie), only 300 numbers apart in serial #, and different typefaces.
ReplyDeleteBy this Friday I should have been delivered a late 40's Royal QDL, identical to my 1948 model, Moneypenny (hopefully except for typeface).
Eventually I would love to have another 1964 Hermes Rocket, identical to Sara's "Starbuck".
So yeah, I have no problem with duplicates in the collection... :D
