Post(Card)-A-Day 28: Puzzled

I haven't used this in a while and just discovered it seems to have developed skipping problems - particularly on the letters "w" and "a". Pity.

This will come in handy for a rainy Sunday - the weather has been too pleasant to stay indoors for the past couple of weekends, not that I'm complaining!

I like the IKEA spoof instruction manual.

The map will come in handy even outside of the puzzle, I'm sure! I can't wait to get started and I'll post an update in a few months when we've had time to assemble it.

Post(Card)-A-Day 27: A Yost No. 20 Sighting; and Others

The Yost, in all its unrestored glory. This is a pretty rare and special machine, and Will Davis featured the one owned by Angie Jimenez on his site a few years ago. Looking at the pictures of that one, you get some sense of the potential for restoration here, but it would take a far stronger (wo)man than I.

100 years old, and not afraid to show her age. Just 50 francs! Any takers? Although if recent history is any indication, it will not be there when I return next week. Some new collectors in the region, perhaps.

Remington Standard No. 12.

"Built to last", Alan Seaver says. I can certainly believe it!

Hermes Baby, with the right platen knob sadly broken. Although not beyond repair, I would think.

Swissa Junior - pica typeface.

Oho! What have we here, lurking between a couple of refrigerators?

A Hermes Media 3, just like the one I found a few weeks ago.

And an accompanying Hermes 3000 from the same era. Both with pica typeface.

I don't know if I've seen grimier typewriters - perhaps these two were moonlighting as chimney sweeps?

Post(Card)-A-Day 26: American Baby - Smith Corona Skyriter

Once you get over the dull color, it really is a nicely styled machine. A good candidate for a makeover paint job, once I figure out how to preserve that badge. I'm not in a hurry, though.

What the alignment looked like before - look at that errant "a"! Really...

It is not super thin, but small enough.

The peace sign of a paper support is absolutely adorable, of course. I wish it reclined just a bit instead of sticking straight up, though.

I know, the elastic band is a bit of an eyesore. Any suggestions on what I should be tightening within the machine itself, or a subtler way to resolve the loose lever issue?

Post(Card)-A-Day 24: Off to the Trade Fair (2)

Typewriter on the poster = no typewriters at the event. Never fails.

They should have put this on the poster, instead! What a handsome penny-farthing. Just the thing to use as a display prop for your Columbia Bar-Lock typewriter, perhaps.

What does the future hold for paperbacks? I am curious to find out what the industry is thinking.

Still, I feel it would be a pity to replace children's literature with iPads! When images and texture add so much to the sensory experience of reading, it is just too far off to substitute a glass screen.

Post(Card)-A-Day 23: Off to the Trade Fair (1)

The setting of the Geneva Motor Show

All a bit too glamorous for me, I'm afraid, but interesting to visit once.

I like the swooping curves here; they remind me of some of the design details of handsome typewriters. The color is even a bit like this Alpina featured on Richard's blog a while back.

Is this what the Hermes 3000's classic mint green would look like today? Very pretty color.

Shiny old black cars with gleaming chrome parts remind me of shiny old black typewriters with gleaming chrome parts! Like a fine Remington Noiseless Model 7, perhaps. Although I suppose this Maybach is ivory, so I shall compare it to this beautiful cream Adler Favorit (it would have been even better with glass/chrome keys!).

Doesn't this remind you of the Silver Surfer typewriter trend?
